William "Bill" Shehan, 90, passed away June 14, 2018, at his home in St. Stephens. A native of Megargel, he was the son of sharecroppers. He loved the military, and always dreamed about his days serving in the United States Air Force. He joined the Air Force at an early age and lived in many other states and countries throughout his service. Shehan especially loved the Southwest. In the Air Force he was a cook, B-52 bomb navigation instructor and a weapons mechanic. He was very proud to be a part of the Air Commando No. 5040 division.

He served in the Korean War and Vietnam War. His best friend was retired Master Sgt. Robert A. “Bob” Yow, USAF ATC. He loved to reminisce about the old days, fly fishing, the Air Force, old friends, building helicopters and camping. He was an avid reader; one of his favorite authors being Louis L'Amour. He loved his family and cherished his wife, Patricia. He became close to DJ Painter over the past couple of years and appreciates Painter helping to take care of him. All babies grew up adoring their grandfather and will always have special memories of him. Shehan was loved by so many and will be truly missed.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Addie and Edward Shehan; son, Michael Alan Shehan; sisters, Lucille Parr and Joyce "Charlie" Herron and grandchildren, Trish Orso and D.D. Weaver.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia P. Shehan; sons, Matthew (Ginger) Shehan, Clay (Amy) Shehan, Will (Misty) Shehan and Andy Weaver; daughters, Linda (Bob) Spencer, Lynn (Ronnie) Givens, Zelda (Barry) Orso and Jackie Ready; brother, Bob Shehan; sisters, Agnes Buckalew and Ann Haskew; 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were June 18 at Reeds Chapel Baptist Church with Brother Chad Orso and Brother Ricky Turner officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with St. Stephens Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers were Matthew Shehan, Will Shehan, Ron Givens, Tyler Ready, Todd Johnston, Arvis Slack, Mike Ready, Ronnie Givens, Michael Buckalew and Barry Orso. Honorary pallbearers included Hazel Johnston, Cynthia Johnston, Rena Byrd and Lucille Weaver.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Special Operation Warrior Foundation or any Charitable Organization that helps needy children.
